Choosing Visuals
Pick the visual for the question being asked: bar and column charts compare categories, line charts show change over time, cards show a single key number, tables and matrices show detail, and maps show location. Avoid pie charts with many slices — they are hard to compare.
Slicers and Filters
Slicers are on-page filters learners can click. The Filters pane works at three levels: visual, page and all pages. Use Edit interactions to decide whether selecting one visual filters, highlights or ignores the others.
Drill-through and Drill-down
Drill-down moves through a hierarchy inside one visual, such as Year to Quarter to Month. Drill-through jumps to a separate detail page filtered to the item you right-clicked — add the field to the page's Drill-through well to set it up.
Bookmarks and Buttons
Bookmarks save the current state of a page: filters, slicers and which visuals are shown. Pair them with buttons and the Selection pane to build toggles, guided stories and custom navigation.
Tooltips
Tooltips appear when you hover over a data point. Add extra fields to the Tooltips well, or build a small report-page tooltip to show a mini chart in the hover box.
Report Design and Accessibility
Good reports have a clear layout, consistent colours and a title that says what the page answers. For accessibility add alt text, keep strong colour contrast, set a sensible tab order and never rely on colour alone to carry meaning.
